Trevor Hall “The Mountain” Recorded In a Meditation Hall from 1904!

Filed Under: News by staritasf — Leave a comment
May 22, 2013

We could talk about all of Trevor Hall’s milestones in the music industry, but Trevor is so much more than that. Trevor gives so much in his performances and music while valuing  personal connections with people and their stories. Even though thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle and the life of the candle will not be shortened, we felt that we should give back by recording Trevor in an environment that would foster his spirit and love for what he does so well . We captured a special moment with Trevor while he performed a song that is dear to him in a meditation hall built in 1904 in Pt. Richmond.  We feel honored to have been a part of such a special auspicious moment in time.

The Recording Academy’s San Francisco Chapter was the seventh Chapter to open, spearheaded by a local group of industry professionals in 1974.

One of those professionals was Tom Scott who later became chief engineer at Skywalker Sound and The Plant. Starita cut his teeth with Tom in his early days of moving to San Francisco and is honored to be elected as Vice President of the chapter one of his mentors started.

The Bay Bridged Features Starita and BAMC

Baybridgedpost

The Bay Bridged has become recognized nationwide as the leading source for San Francisco Bay Area independent music through their award-winning music blog and podcast series, as well as a series of acclaimed music festival events. Be sure to check out their interview with BAMC Founder, Starita.

Remember when the San Francisco Bay Area was an internationally renowned musical destination? Michael Starita remembers, and he wants to go back to the good old days. But he’s not just pining away for the days of yore; no, he founded the Bay Area Music Collective to do something about it.

The BAMC is all about connecting musicians to Bay Area producers, studios, labels, filmmakers, publicists, and anyone else who can help them make music and get it out into the world. Starita, who is a musician himself, Governor for The Grammys and an audio engineer/producer with a resume that lists Rick Rubin as a former client, plans to restore the Bay Area’s status as a premier hub of the music industry by both bringing out-of-towners in to work with local talent and by helping homegrown musicians get their work out to the masses.

Last week guitar slinger Tyler Bryant ripped through the West Coast with his band The Shakedown in support of his new record “Wild Child”. The 12 song rock n’ roll masterpiece reached #3 on the iTunes charts in the first 2 days of it’s debut and “Say A Prayer” was Single Of The Week. Needless to say, this band is kickin’ ass and takin’ names while blazing their way across the country leaving crowds asking “What just happened?!”  The crew teamed up with Starita’s Bay Area Music Collective to track a couple of tunes at San Francisco’s famed Hyde Street Studios while BAMC’s Visual Mastermind Steve Rosenfield captured the magic. The boys all headed up to Sacramento to deliver Harlowe’s one of the best rock shows to date and to participate in Rosenfield’s nationally renowned photo project, What I Be, aimed at helping people find strength in exposing their insecurities.

Respected veteran singer songwriter of the San Francisco music scene Chris James along with his new band The Showdowns, have a reputation for enamoring audiences with rootsy rock n’ roll songs from the heart. The group is also recognized for their energized and compelling live show, which has no shortage of Telecaster twang and swirling B3 organ; recently headlining such San Francisco clubs as Slim’s, The Boom Boom Room, Hotel Utah, Brick and Mortar and others.

This upcoming live performance at Bottom of the Hill will no doubt harness even more energy and excitement than usual as the band can finally, after a year of hard work with some of the Bay Area’s finest engineers and producers at Faultline Studios, Coast Recorders, and Hyde St. Studios, celebrate the launch of their new CD: Lucky Breaks

Start to finish this is a vibrant record of exceptionally well-crafted, memorable songs and is a true “Road Trip” CD that captures the spirit of Roots Rock Americana music. The album is fresh, yet familiar and showcases songwriting ranging from lively and inspired rock n’ roll numbers to endearing, emotional ballads. “Chris James is a terrific singer-songwriter with a real honest approach and style. Reminds me a little of Springsteen…its only a matter of time before he gets ‘signed’…”     - J. Bowman (Lead Guitarist, Michael Franti & Spearhead)

THE 7th ANNUAL PATIOPALOOZA! at El Rio

Filed Under: News, Shows by staritasf — Leave a comment
June 19, 2012
It’s time for Patiopalooza again! Starita has either produced or engineered all of these bands in one incarnation or another. Check out the press release below!
What began as a birthday party 7 years ago has now turned into an annual summer Rock N Roll and BBQ tradition on the back patio stage of El Rio, one of San Francisco’s most enduring and beloved raucous outdoor music venues.
The event, spearheaded by local singer songwriter Chris James, brings together local musical talent ranging from Alternative to Blues to Country Rock and usually sees an attendance of over 200 ready to let their hair down and dust the boots off San Franciscans…
The spirits are high, the front row gets booty shakin’ and with a free outdoor BBQ thrown in its about the best time your gonna get in the city without feelin’ like your in the city on a Saturday afternoon…and all for a mere $8.
Not to mention that the Patiopalooza always features 3 to 4 of the Bay Area’s premier live rock n’ roll acts…
This year’s line up of bands includes:
BURN RIVER BURN
BURNriverBURN is a five-piece with a sound unique within the hard rock genre (a sort of southern fried sabbath, if you will). The name BURNriverBURN, coined by the lead guitarist, is a reference to his hometown of Cleveland, Ohio and it’s infamous burning river the “Cuyahoga”…

“Well written hard rock songs with an extremely talented vocalist backed up by thick tones and grooves pretty much sum up BURNriverBURN. So does their motto: If your amps aren’t taller than you, then you must be doing something wrong….”

 CHRIS JAMES & THE SHOWDOWNS

Chris James and The Showdowns are a band that has a reputation for “keeping it real” and delivering unbridled original Roots-Rock-Americana songs that will have you wondering where the hell you’d heard em before…The band is equally comfortable performing heart felt ballads along side telecaster twang driven southern rock making their live shows energetic, emotional and hallmark memorable.

“Chris James’ style of writing is hard to deny as it rings of times and life situations we can all relate to. It’s nice to see an artist and band hold true to Americana roots while still giving you a rock and roll kick in the ass!”

FINDING STELLA
Passionate rock! The sound of Finding Stella is led by the power and emotion of lead vocalist Chris Snyder, backed by lush harmonies and a rich variety of electric/acoustic guitars, keyboard/string sounds, all supported by a driving rhythm section.   Snyder along with Victoria Ovieda, Tim Christmon, Rich Flynn, and Dave Scott incorporate many divergent influences and styles into their music, smoothly jumping from classic rock to power-pop to tender ballads – all while creating a rich rock sound. Their first album “Twitch,” sold out very quickly…
MISSION BLACKOUT
“Soulful Rock n’ Roll with a gritty alternative edge…”

What I Be Project Website Is Up!!!!!

Filed Under: News by staritasf — 1 Comment
May 23, 2012

My friend, Steve Rosenfield, started a project called “What I be” dealing with the insecurities that every person deals with in their everyday  lives. Whether it be, being overweight, terminal illness or just our own minds….it is all very real to every human being. Steve captures the honesty and pure emotion while helping people face these insecurities head on and induce healing.

I myself have participated  along with nearly 600 others including Brad Corrigan of Dispatch, Paula Van Oppen (Burlesque, Pussy Cat Dolls), Manas Itiene (Spearhead), Andrew Keegan (10 Things I Hate About You), Kathryn Budig, Tamal Dodge and Trevor Hall. I highly encourage you to take a second to see the beautiful project it has become. I sincerely hope it will give you strength and if nothing else, a little more tolerance and compassion for the internal struggles people go through because of society and false projections of the mind.

I built the website and am proud to say that it’s  NOW LIVE!!!!!!!!

Below is a video of Farris, one of the participants who gives his story.
