It’s been years in the making and across the country and back….the New Chris James and The Showdowns album “Lucky Breaks” is finally here! Chris James and Starita started tracking on the record 3 years ago in a small studio in the Haight district of San Francisco with 2 mics and alot of heart. The songs have since traveled to Portland, Maine returning to SF to grace the walls of Faultline Studios, Freq Lab recording and Michael Romanowski Mastering.

The boys are releasing the record with great celebration the night before Thanksgiving, November 21st at Bottom Of The Hill. Be sure to come grab a copy and raise a drink to Rock and Roll!

Respected veteran singer songwriter of the San Francisco music scene Chris James along with his new band The Showdowns, have a reputation for enamoring audiences with rootsy rock n’ roll songs from the heart. The group is also recognized for their energized and compelling live show, which has no shortage of Telecaster twang and swirling B3 organ; recently headlining such San Francisco clubs as Slim’s, The Boom Boom Room, Hotel Utah, Brick and Mortar and others.

This upcoming live performance at Bottom of the Hill will no doubt harness even more energy and excitement than usual as the band can finally, after a year of hard work with some of the Bay Area’s finest engineers and producers at Faultline Studios, Coast Recorders, and Hyde St. Studios, celebrate the launch of their new CD: Lucky Breaks

Start to finish this is a vibrant record of exceptionally well-crafted, memorable songs and is a true “Road Trip” CD that captures the spirit of Roots Rock Americana music. The album is fresh, yet familiar and showcases songwriting ranging from lively and inspired rock n’ roll numbers to endearing, emotional ballads. Compelling vocals and lyrics tell a story while the band’s energy and soaring lead guitar work take you on a musical ride…fans of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, The Wall Flowers, and Ryan Adams, will no doubt find something they like on this new release.
-Tour dates, video shoots, and music licensing projects are planned for the near future, and they are excited to work closely with the newly founded: Bay Area Music Collective. www.bayaremusiccollective.com

“Chris James’ style of writing is hard to deny as it rings of times and life situations we can all relate to. It’s nice to see an artist and band hold true to Americana roots while still giving you a rock and roll kick in the ass!”    -Starita (Music Producer, Grammy Awards Board Member)

“Chris James is a terrific singer-songwriter with a real honest approach and style. Reminds me a little of Springsteen…its only a matter of time before he gets ‘signed’…”     - J. Bowman (Lead Guitarist, Michael Franti & Spearhead)

THE 7th ANNUAL PATIOPALOOZA! at El Rio

Filed Under: News, Shows by staritasf — Leave a comment
June 19, 2012
It’s time for Patiopalooza again! Starita has either produced or engineered all of these bands in one incarnation or another. Check out the press release below!
What began as a birthday party 7 years ago has now turned into an annual summer Rock N Roll and BBQ tradition on the back patio stage of El Rio, one of San Francisco’s most enduring and beloved raucous outdoor music venues.
The event, spearheaded by local singer songwriter Chris James, brings together local musical talent ranging from Alternative to Blues to Country Rock and usually sees an attendance of over 200 ready to let their hair down and dust the boots off San Franciscans…
The spirits are high, the front row gets booty shakin’ and with a free outdoor BBQ thrown in its about the best time your gonna get in the city without feelin’ like your in the city on a Saturday afternoon…and all for a mere $8.
Not to mention that the Patiopalooza always features 3 to 4 of the Bay Area’s premier live rock n’ roll acts…
This year’s line up of bands includes:
BURN RIVER BURN
BURNriverBURN is a five-piece with a sound unique within the hard rock genre (a sort of southern fried sabbath, if you will). The name BURNriverBURN, coined by the lead guitarist, is a reference to his hometown of Cleveland, Ohio and it’s infamous burning river the “Cuyahoga”…

“Well written hard rock songs with an extremely talented vocalist backed up by thick tones and grooves pretty much sum up BURNriverBURN. So does their motto: If your amps aren’t taller than you, then you must be doing something wrong….”

 CHRIS JAMES & THE SHOWDOWNS

Chris James and The Showdowns are a band that has a reputation for “keeping it real” and delivering unbridled original Roots-Rock-Americana songs that will have you wondering where the hell you’d heard em before…The band is equally comfortable performing heart felt ballads along side telecaster twang driven southern rock making their live shows energetic, emotional and hallmark memorable.

“Chris James’ style of writing is hard to deny as it rings of times and life situations we can all relate to. It’s nice to see an artist and band hold true to Americana roots while still giving you a rock and roll kick in the ass!”

FINDING STELLA
Passionate rock! The sound of Finding Stella is led by the power and emotion of lead vocalist Chris Snyder, backed by lush harmonies and a rich variety of electric/acoustic guitars, keyboard/string sounds, all supported by a driving rhythm section.   Snyder along with Victoria Ovieda, Tim Christmon, Rich Flynn, and Dave Scott incorporate many divergent influences and styles into their music, smoothly jumping from classic rock to power-pop to tender ballads – all while creating a rich rock sound. Their first album “Twitch,” sold out very quickly…
MISSION BLACKOUT
“Soulful Rock n’ Roll with a gritty alternative edge…”

Press Event To Honor Hyde St. Studios This Wednesday, April 25th

April 24, 2012

Hyde St. Studios is arguably the most historic recording studio in the Bay Area hosting such artists as The Grateful Dead, Santana, Primus, 2pac, Creedance Clearwater Revival and 2pac just to name a very small few.

This was where I started my career almost 15 years ago when I first moved to San Francisco and still work out of there till today. I am proud to call it one of my homes and happy to announce this event.

On Wednesday, April 25th, Hyde Street Studios will host a press event and plaque dedication organized by the Uptown Tenderloin Museum. The event will honor the building’s history as a recording studio as well as eight other Tenderloin landmarks.

A wonderful plaque has been installed that focuses on historic recordings by The Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane and other famous artists from the Wally Heider Recordings period (1969-1980). Among those to speak at Tuesday’s event is Stephen Barncard, producer of the Grateful Dead’s American Beauty and other historic albums.

Wednesday’s event is set to start at 11am. We will be having an open studio with tours and refreshments. Please join us to celebrate the rich history of our studio and neighborhood!

Eddie has graced many of the world’s greatest stages from New Orleans Jazzfest and Bonnaroo to Red Rocks Amphitheater.

In chatting with Eddie a couple of months ago, he explained his vision of having a DJ lay Moodyman-esque beats and old jazz cuts while he and the other members grooved there jazz funk magic over top. Sounds like an amazing match up if I’ve ever heard of one! You never know, Roughneck may be in the studio with Starita soon;-)

April 12, 2012

HYDROPHONIC is a psychedelic hard rock band featuring Corey Largent (lead guitar/vocals), Sam Lowther (rhythm guitar, backup vocals), Zack Newman (bass guitar) and Shawn Stein (drums).

In April of 2011 they independently released their debut EP BEACHED, a heavy 6 track riff-and-groove effort that I had the pleasure of engineering and producing. It has seen local success in newspapers, music shops and live arenas.
They recently performed at the Team McCready Global Fundraiser Event in Los Angeles in honor of Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready to raise money for the nonprofit organization Advocacy for Patients With Chronic Illness.
They are looking to go back into the studio in early May to record a new single  entitled Friends Like These. The release of Friends Like These is one of many projects they have scheduled under the direction of their new management team at Moxy Media, led by Laura Trafton.
They will be opening for Flight to Mars, a tribute to 1970s English heavy rockers UFO featuring Pearl Jam lead guitarist Mike McCready, on Sunday, May 20th at The Independent in San Francisco!
Contribute to this Kickstarter so you can say you were part of this revolution!!!!
